Plans are underway to follow-up with information from the Kansas Enrichment Network.  Next, our parent-school liaison is a strong resource as we explore the names of motivational speakers to "kick-off " the after-school parent outreach program.

PLC Showcase

At the end of our semester of work, all PLCs will be showcasing their work at the Wyandotte High School PLC Showcase on Wednesday, December 12th in the Social Hall.  The showcase will be a public demonstration of our learning, collaboration, and results.  Each PLC will showcase work that reflects how your learning and collaboration has impacted student learning.  Each PLC is encouraged to be creative and innovative in their demonstration (student examples would be highly encouraged); however, please be sure the following are addressed through your presentation -
    PLC Focus
Collaborative Actions
Summary of PLC Learning
Impact on Student Learning
Connections to Future Teaching and Learning
In addition, all staff will have an opportunity to visit each demonstration during the Showcase.  Many outside guests will also be in attendance.

If your PLC requires any kind of additional resources, please submit any requests for those materials via the comment section to this blog entry by NOVEMBER 9th. You will receive these materials by or before your November 28th meeting, so you will have AT LEAST two weeks to work on organizing your demonstration.

Motivating Students Via Personal Time

Our PLC discussed today that we will implement for the next week a motivation strategy that is based upon rewarding for participation and work ethic.  A group of instructors who wish to participate will allow students to have personal time to use their computers and socialize quietly as they wish for the last ten minutes of class if: the instructor is able to get through their lesson and if work given for the day is either completed or attempted with an honest effort.

Happy Wednesday!

9/5

  • What are we going to do over the next week that contributes to our PLC learning topic?
    • Parent needs assessment - we will survey during FA day.
    • We will discuss next meeting.
  • How does this contribute to student learning?
  • How will we measure the impact of this week's work?

  • Get parents involved - don't give laptops until students have PROVED they can be responsible.

  • Bring parents up to teach them about high school: credits, scholarships, bullying, schoolloop, truancy, danger of the internet, teen pregnancy  etc. in mandatory sessions.  What classes would parents be interested in?

  • How can we get parents more involved?

  • Have FA day for one SLC at a time.

  • What do parents want to know? Ask parents?
  • How do we communicate with parents?
  • How educated are the parents?
  • Hispanic parents - bring them in.  They respond better to speaking to them in person.
  • Teach them how high school works
  • Offer GED/ESL classes for the parents.

It sounds like you're off to an excellent start!
